ABOUT THIS SPACE
A place to be a little more human.
Dear Someone is a story circle for the moments you feel disconnected. You can read quietly, say “I relate,” or leave a letter of your own.
About our little guides
The guides are published by Dear Someone to help you put a feeling into words and choose a manageable next step. They are written with AI assistance and checked against the resources linked on each page, including NHS, Mind, and the Mental Health Foundation.
The guides offer general support and original conversation examples. They have not been reviewed by a clinician and do not provide diagnosis or treatment. Follow the source links for further information. Personal letters come from visitors; fictional starter letters are separately labeled.
Our little agreements
- Share your own experience. Let other people have theirs.
- Be kind. No harassment, threats, hate, or shaming.
- Leave out identifying details about yourself and others.
- No spam, advertising, contact details, or requests for money.
- Do not post graphic violence, explicit sexual content, or instructions for self-harm.
- Offer understanding. Don’t diagnose people or promise a cure.
What “anonymous” means here
You don’t need an account to post a story. Readers never see your name, email, or profile. Signing in is optional, and this app does not attach your signed-in account to your letter.
Your story is public. Anyone on the internet can read it or share its direct link. Please write with that in mind: even without a name, a detailed story can identify someone. This is a shared space, not a confidential journal.
We use an essential browser cookie to remember reactions, limit repeat posting, hide letters you report, and let you remove your own letters. The database stores a one-way hash of this random browser identifier, plus your stories, reactions, and reports. It does not store your name or email with your stories. Hosting services may process technical request and sign-in data to run the site.
You can remove a letter by opening it in the browser that posted it and choosing “Remove.” If you clear that browser’s cookie, use another device, or the cookie expires, the app cannot recognize you as its author. A posted letter stays visible until removed. Deleting it removes it and its reactions from the active story database; it cannot erase copies someone else may have made.
Email accounts
Email signup and login are provided by Supabase through Lovable Cloud. Your email and password are processed by that authentication provider, separately from the story database. Your email is never shown publicly or attached to a letter. An essential sign-in session is saved in your browser so you can stay logged in. Log out on shared devices.
Creating an account does not grant access to reports, other accounts, or the owner dashboard. Your account is optional; signing out does not remove letters you have posted or erase the separate anonymous browser cookie used to manage them.
Looking after the circle
Use “Report” inside any letter to save a concern and hide it from your browser’s feed. Reports are available to the site owner for review. The owner can hide a letter from the feed and its direct link, or restore it. Reports are not monitored in real time, and reporting does not automatically remove a letter for everyone. Browser and network posting limits and contact-detail checks are in place; they are not comprehensive moderation.
There are no private messages or comment threads in this version. You can acknowledge a story with “I relate” without asking its author to explain more.
Measuring what helps
The hosting platform provides visitor and page-view analytics. The app also keeps daily totals of arrivals and share actions by broad source, such as a friend or Google. Those totals contain no email, story text, raw IP address, or full referring URL. They count actions, not unique people. The app respects browser Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control signals for these extra totals.
To limit spam, the app temporarily stores keyed hashes of a network address or anonymous browser token. These counters expire after an hour and are cleared on later requests. They are separate from the stories and are not used to identify their authors. Individual story pages request that search engines not index them; this is not a privacy barrier or a guarantee against copying.
A note on the example letters
The circle begins with eight fictional letters written to illustrate common experiences. They are individually marked “Example letter” and are not presented as real user testimonials. Reaction counts reflect actual visitor actions.
When you need more than a story
Dear Someone is not a crisis service or a substitute for professional care. If you need emotional support in the U.S., call or text 988 or visit 988 Lifeline. Outside the U.S., use a local support service. Contact local emergency services for immediate danger.
